But the city also has a lot to offer beyond the Christmas tree on Rathausplatz and Christmas shopping in front of Schönbrunn Palace. Taking place for the first time in 2025, the event aims to be a carefully curated offering of food and drink, crafts and design. A total of 40 exhibitors are expected, all of whom had to pass strict selection criteria. Admission is free and the event starts at 4 pm on weekdays and 2 pm at weekends. They have already become a beloved tradition: The gondolas and the urban après-ski feeling that takes over the roof of The Ritz-Carlton in the run-up to Christmas. The ambience is elegant, of course, and culinary winter staples such as mulled wine, hot chocolate, hearty goulash soup and fresh Buchteln are served in the open air. And of course there are breathtaking views. But the five original ski gondolas from Salzburg are particularly cool. They serve as a cozy retreat for up to 6 people and are rented out exclusively. The 15 chalets of the Feuerdorf on the Danube Canal are also fixed starters in Advent 2025 in Vienna. The chalets, each offering space for up to 12 people, are welcoming their guests for the tenth time during the winter season. Theo’s Lounge & Bar has a special treat in store this Advent: from November 30, 2025, it will be serving the city’s first afternoon tea curated by a Michelin-starred chef: Paul Gamauf. He is the Head Chef of EDVARD (1 star) and reinterprets the classic tea tradition together with the hotel’s Executive Chef, Dieter Stamminger. Of course, there are also exciting excursion destinations around Vienna that provide atmospheric Advent moments. One example is the Eis-Greissler Lichterglanz spectacle in the Bucklige Welt. Over a distance of 1.5 kilometers, visitors experience 300 light installations up to eight meters high, fascinating rides, a 5D winter film and an ice skating rink measuring over 700 square meters.
