As one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vienna is always worth a visit. The city’s hotel scene is quite diverse, offering everything from absolute luxury to hostels. The Chill Report recently visited Hoxton Vienna in the Austrian capital to check it out. The hotel positions itself in the upscale lifestyle segment.

Location

The Hoxton Vienna is located in the 3rd district—making it perfectly situated for just about everything. Take, for example, public transportation from the airport. Thanks to the nearby City Airport Train terminal, this is super convenient, traffic-free, and fast. Whether you take public transportation or a taxi, you’ll be there in about half an hour. Just a few steps from the hotel, the sprawling Stadtpark is perfect for jogging or taking a stroll.

To get to the sights in the inner city, all you really have to do is cross the street. The Ringstrasse, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Kärntner Strasse, and the Opera House are all within easy walking distance, but you can also simply take one of the many trams that stop nearby.

Style & Character

The Hoxton in Vienna is located in a historic building constructed in the 1950s by architect Carl Appel. For a long time, it served as the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce. BWM Designers & Architects took on the challenge of transforming this linear postwar building and created a hotel with 196 rooms, a two-story lobby featuring original terrazzo flooring and columns.

The interior design is by AIME Studios. It combines mid-century aesthetics with stylistic elements of the Wiener Werkstätte. Both are reflected in rich textures, geometric shapes, and playful tiles. As a tribute to the past, the original railings with black rubber handrails, the original door handles, and the iconic terrazzo floor have been preserved.

Rooms & Suites

A total of 196 rooms and suites were created across five categories. The smallest of them, called “Shoebox,” measure about 13 square meters, while the most spacious, “Roomy,” offer about 26 square meters. Their style is appealing: plush furnishings, large beds, plenty of natural light, modern TVs, and well-functioning air conditioning units are all part of the amenities.

We stayed in Room 103, which is part of the ” Cosy Neighborhood ” category. From here, there’s a view of the streets of Vienna; the bathroom is very spacious and features a rain shower. A tea maker, a table with a couch right by the window, and a large flat-screen TV are also part of the room’s amenities.

Facilities & Service

The public areas are truly stunning in terms of design. In the lobby, guests are greeted by a tall, light-filled space with cozy seating areas and plenty of plants. Beautifully designed lighting installations and plush furnishings bring the style of the 1950s indoors. The Bouvier Bistro, and a basement bar round out the lower levels. On the top floor, a rooftop bar complete with a pool awaits guests.

If you didn’t bring the right gear, you can simply pick up sunglasses and swimwear at the shop. Hotel guests who want to use the pool can do so in peace between 7 and 9 a.m. For later times, poolside spots can be booked online—2.5 hours cost a hefty €50 per person. Laptops aren’t allowed, and after 2.5 hours, an additional €15 is charged. The view of the city from up here is very pretty.

The staff at the front desk and during breakfast were exceptionally friendly and professional; it was only on the terrace at Bouvier that we switched to self-service after a long wait.

Food & Drink

Breakfast offers a classic selection of cold cuts and cheeses, as well as cereals and pastries. There are also hot items available à la carte. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the food impresses with its flavor and freshness. At Cayo Coco on the rooftop, Cuban-inspired snacks are served starting at 5 p.m.—think avocado gazpacho or Cuban fries. The cocktails (alcoholic drinks starting at €15) for sundowners are served in plastic glasses due to the pool area .

The Bouvier opens for breakfast at 7 a.m.; on Saturdays and Sundays, brunch is served from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. On weekdays, you can also stop by for lunch. The dinner menu at The Hoxton Vienna Restaurant features schnitzel (chicken), ricotta gnudi, ribeye steak, and cheeseburgers.

What we love …

The location and style are fantastic. The Hoxton, Vienna offers great value for the price and has a distinctly Viennese feel (in the best possible way). The fact that it has a pool is also worth highlighting. That’s still a rarity among Vienna’s city hotels. Guests who book directly through the website also enjoy “flexy time”: check-in and check-out times are flexible and can be arranged at no extra charge.

… and what is not so

The price for the pool reservation is high and is equivalent to the cost of a monthly pass for Vienna’s municipal outdoor pools; the city has 30 of them. Although the room had a kettle and tea bags, as coffee junkies we would have preferred a coffee maker.

Conclusion: Who is The Hoxton Vienna best suited for?

The Hoxton Vienna is ideal for couples on a city trip who appreciate being close to the sights, are design-conscious , and don’t want to spend the kind of money required for a hotel on the Ringstrasse.
