Location

Flemings Mayfair, a beautiful boutique hotel in London that should not be confused with the (almost) identical hotels in Vienna, is around an hour’s drive from Heathrow Airport. It takes a little longer by cab. Those arriving by public transport can look forward to a direct connection via the Piccadilly Line. Green Park station is just a few meters away. The hotel is located in Half Moon Street, a quiet side street off Piccadilly Street. The location is just perfect! If you want to go for a run or a walk, for example, you can do so almost endlessly in the greenery. Green Park, St. James Park and the expansive Hyde Park surround this corner of London.

But the sights are not far away either. In fact, pretty much everything is within walking distance. For example, Wellington Arch, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Palace, and of course Oxford Street and Regent Street. Fortnum & Mason and Harrods are also within easy walking distance. The surrounding Mayfair district is known as a luxurious residential and shopping area. We visited London during Advent, a time when the stores in Mayfair are particularly lavish. In short: the location is perfect for everything you have planned.

Style & Character

Flemings Mayfair is a luxurious boutique hotel that is enchanting even from the outside. It is not a soulless block or even a new building. On the contrary. Founded in 1851 by Robert Fleming, it is one of the oldest hotels in the city. A total of 13 Georgian townhouses from the early 18th century were combined to form a single unit. The ensemble is extremely harmonious. You enter the hotel through a portico flanked by columns. The Georgian elegance is continued in the lobby. However, with a modern art deco twist.

The hotel exudes elegance with typical elements such as lattice windows and brick façades. This is continued in the interior with bronze and gray tones. Velvet, brass, marble and dark wood complement the interior design. Custom-made furniture and impressive lighting not only create a glamorous ambience, but also character. In the Drawing Room, for example, you can admire hand-painted wall panels. There is even a twinkle in the eye. For example, you get the feeling that you are standing in the smallest library in the world when you enter the elevator.

Rooms & Suites

There are a total of 129 individually designed rooms and suites as well as ten fully equipped apartments to choose from. Our Flemings Mayfair experience was provided by a three-day stay in Junior Suite 216 , which impressed both with its size and its tasteful design. A huge bed formed the center of the sleeping area, in which an exceptionally beautiful lamp provided the lighting mood. Fresh flowers, art on the walls, books on the shelves by the seating area, a decorative fireplace and a mini-bar with a coffee machine complete the living area.

Passing a closet, we enter the extremely spacious bathroom. The bathtub is a particular delight here. After all, what could be better than sinking into a fragrant, warm bath after a long day of shopping? Care products from Asprey London (Purple Water!) were available in the suite. Beauty aficionados will be familiar with the brand. After all, it has been a classic British luxury brand since 1781. A detail we particularly love.

Food & Drink

To the left of the lobby is the aforementioned Drawing Room. This is where guests retire in the afternoon for a stylish afternoon tea, leaf through the heavy illustrated books and indulge in sweet delicacies from the hotel’s own bakery. The same room is used for breakfast and the Michelin-starred Ormer Mayfair Restaurant. It is also beautiful. Solid wooden chairs, large round and small square tables, coffered ceilings and black and white patterned tiles lend the room elegance. There is also Manetta’s Bar, which offers drinks in the style of the 1930s.

The quality of the food is amazing – that’s how you could summarize our Flemings Mayfair culinary experience. For breakfast, in addition to the included Continental Breakfast from the somewhat makeshift buffet, there are also dishes prepared à la minute to order. The only downside is that the espresso was a bit long in coming, which actually made it a depresso. In our experience, however, this very much depends on what time you turn up. You should definitely try the delicious soda bread and the sweet pastries several times. The quality and freshness of the food was impressive across the board.

To describe our dinner at Ormer Mayfair in a few lines would be presumptuous. The evening was simply terrific, which of course has to do with the creative cuisine of Michelin-starred chef Sofian Msetfi. But it was also down to the service team, especially our witty and attentive sommelier Piotr Sikorski . Each course was characterized by precision, both in terms of taste and presentation. As a refreshing contrast, the atmosphere in the restaurant is cheerful and informal. People laugh, talk and enjoy themselves. As we hate nothing more than the reverent silence that often prevails at hotel breakfasts and in Michelin-starred restaurants, we were delighted by the relaxed atmosphere here. A detailed review of the Ormer Mayfair will follow.

Equipment & Services

In addition to the restaurant, bar and drawing room, this boutique hotel in London also has a gym. It is beautifully designed (the wallpaper!) and open from 6 am to 10 pm. You work out on new TechnoGym equipment. This includes a Power Plate, two treadmills, a bike, rowing machine, free weights and strength machines. A personal trainer can be booked on request. Of course, the team takes care of all inquiries regarding restaurant bookings, gives tips and is always on hand to help.

What we love …

The people at Flemings Mayfair are great hosts; consistently! The brownies in the Drawing Room and at breakfast are worth every sin. The dinner at Ormer Mayfair and our junior suite absolutely enchanted us. In our opinion, the location is one of the best in the whole city. Precisely because you are close enough to the sights and shopping opportunities and can still enjoy a lot of peace and quiet. Speaking of “peace and quiet”: breakfast is served until 12 noon at the weekend!

… and what is not so

Our Flemings Mayfair experience was simply fantastic, which is why it was really hard for us to pack our bags and say goodbye. We can wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend the hotel.

Top tip

Don’t leave the Bloody Mary station unattended at breakfast!

Conclusion & suitable for …

We visited during Advent and were delighted with the enchanting decorations. They also offer a special afternoon tea and special menus during the festive season. Perfect for a Christmas getaway. But we can also recommend it for the following occasions:

  • City trip
  • Shopping trip
  • City vacation as a couple
  • Sightseeing trip

It could well be that we haven’t been here for the last time!
