Around a week after its debut on December 25, 2020, over 68 million households had watched the first season of the series Bridgerton. This makes the series about a fictional London high society in the 19th century one of the most successful Netflix series of all time. It was a sensational success for producer Shonda Rhimes. Not surprisingly, after all, she was already responsible for hits such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder”.
But still amazing. After all, Bridgerton is a series with the same basic ideas: It follows the love stories of the eight Bridgerton siblings. There is a kind of main focus in every season. It’s not giving too much away to say that it’s always unexpected love in the end. The first part of the third season started on May 16. Bridgerton season 3 part 2 will follow on June 13, 2024. Time to take a closer look at the Bridgerton locations.
Bridgerton filming locations Mayfair
The story – in which numerous unexpected plot twists ensure that it never gets boring – is actually set in a place where London’s long-established high society can still be found today. Namely in the district of Mayfair. We love it in the run-up to Christmas for the lavishly decorated shop windows of upmarket boutiques. And the city’s oldest hotel, the luxurious Brown’s Hotel, can also be found here. It opened in 1837 and now belongs to Rocco Forte Hotels. The Mercato Mayfair, a pretty food hall in a former church, is also here.
It’s always a great experience to stroll through Mayfair. After all, it is one of the most expensive districts in the world. A large part has belonged to the Grosvenor family for more than 300 years. The facades of the houses are correspondingly beautiful. However, anyone looking for Bridgerton filming locations will be disappointed. Despite the great architecture in Mayfair, the film was shot in the former spa town of Bath in the southwest of England.
Bridgerton Afternoon Tea in London
London’s luxury hotel The Lanesborough has come up with something very special for series fans. A special afternoon tea is served here for a short time in homage to the Regency era. This is inspired by the intrigues and love stories of the Bridgertons. Guests can choose to dine in the magnificently decorated dining room under the glazed domed roof during the day or in the evening in the soft light of the chandeliers.
Master confectioner Pierre Morvan-Bénezet created delicacies that are a tribute to the key figures. These include Clarence Court eggs with truffle mayonnaise, tender steamed chicken, smoked salmon and wonderful desserts. They have names like Colin’s Travels, The Lady Whistledown or The Social Butterfly. The Bridgerton Afternoon Tea is also available vegan and gluten-free. It costs £85 per person or £95 with a cocktail or £98 with a glass of champagne.
Where does the Bridgerton family live?
The Bridgerton family’s home is in the London borough of Greenwich. “Ranger’s House” serves as the façade. This is a museum near Greenwich Park. It is home to one of the finest private art collections in the whole of Europe. The founder, Julius Wernher, collected more than 700 works. If you book your ticket online in advance, you pay £12.50 – which conveniently includes a donation.
If you would also like to pay a visit to Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), you can pay your respects to the Bridgerton Queen at Hampton Court Palace in the far south-west of London. The castle – kept in the Baroque and Tudor style – can actually be visited. It impresses with its magnificent interior and its extremely long and rich history. Tickets cost £27.20. Lancaster House in St. James, London, was used for the interior shots of the palace. Its Grand Hall and state rooms were also seen in “Downtown Abbey” and “The Crown”.
Trip to Bath
As already mentioned, many of the main filming locations are in Bath. The home of the Featherington family can also be found here, at No. 1 Royal Crescent. Behind the imposing façade is actually the museum of the same name. Inside, visitors can experience how people lived in the 18th century. By the way, that was the Georgian Era, which came before the Victorian (Regency) era. The experience here is immersive and definitely exciting, even if the time period doesn’t quite fit. But who notices that? Tickets cost £15.50 for adults.
Many exterior shots were also filmed in Bath Street, Barton Street, Abbey Green and Beaufort Square. In the city’s Assembly Rooms – which can also be visited – ball scenes were captured on the big screen. And one of the most beautiful Bridgerton filming locations is probably Prior Park, which is open to the public.
Bridgerton Wedding in London
Back to the capital. Because not only Bridgerton locations, but also Bridgerton experiences are very popular at the moment. And because there are weddings in every season, there are Bridgerton weddings with them. The beautiful Hotel Café Royal in a prime location on Regent Street is the right place to go for a stylish Regency wedding.
The building, which is over 150 years old, is the perfect setting for opulent weddings to rival that of Daphne and Simon. Various suites are available to get ready in, the outdoor terrace with panoramic views over Regent Street is a perfect photo opportunity and the frescoed ceilings are simply breathtakingly beautiful. The hotel attaches great importance to service and is one of the best hotels in the city.
