Liu Liu Vienna: Why you should visit this Restaurant

We are always trying to find the best restaurants in the city. This time we tested Liu Liu Vienna – with chinese fare in the 18th district.

Run by the second generation of the family, the Lius have been enriching the Währing restaurant scene, which is not too opulent anyway, for decades. What used to be a rather classic Chinese restaurant has become, at the latest since the rebrand in 2017, a bright and friendly place with sometimes excellent Asian fusion cuisine. Hungry, we investigated the question: How does it taste at Liu Liu Vienna?

First things first

As soon as you enter, you notice the warm friendliness of our hosts. The restaurant is full, so it is advisable to make a reservation, especially at the weekend. The Trumer Pils on tap, which is far too rare, is the next highlight and will wet our dry throats from now on. original aperitifs and homemade iced teas and syrups round off the good range of drinks perfectly, along with the Austrian wine list.

Eating Well

To start, we ventured into the fiery hot Chilli Cucumber Smash. Only for the experienced spicy eater, please! Accompanied by crispy deep-fried Crispy Wantan, filled with minced meat and leek, which takes the more dominant part – a mix made in heaven. The Cashew Sriracha Chicken continues the epicurean feast with comparatively mild spiciness but fine peanut-vegetable tones.

The excellent vegetarian conclusion of the meal is the Veggie Trio. Tofu, garlic sprouts, shiitake mushrooms and cashew nuts in a spicy interplay are convincing. The rice with the dishes has to be ordered separately, which we would also recommend. The sumptuous rolls from the neighbouring tables looked decidedly tempting. So tempting that the next visit will surely follow soon!

After Dinner

As mentioned, we experienced very friendly and eager staff. But the focus of their attention was clearly on the food, not so much on the drinks. So if you are thirsty, draw attention to yourselves. That’s complaining on a high level though, apart from that we were satiated and satisfied all around.

The Bowling Alley

We don’t want to deprive you of one of the unexpected highlights of Liu Liu: the bowling alley. After all, how many Asian restaurants do you know that have one? Fully automated and modernised, it’s a popular feature. If you’re aiming for all nine, don’t forget to reserve the lane early.
