As the ski season draws to a close, it’s high time to start thinking about upcoming trips and holidays. The Mediterranean is an eternal temptation. Croatia in particular, due to its geographical proximity. Rovinj, for example, is only a good 6-hour drive from Vienna. There are many options for foodies, but which are the best restaurants in Rovinj?
Maestral
Fantastic location with an unbeatable view of the old town. Very attentive staff serve good draught beer and strong Malvasia in addition to pizza, pasta, fish and meat. We would like to make a special mention of the Fishermans Bread. A dough similar to focaccia is filled with strong anchovies. A poem that will still make your mouth water months later when you think about it. Tip: Make sure to book, because it’s always full in the evenings. In late summer, it’s prime time from about 6.30 p.m. onwards, when you can enjoy the sunset from the Maestral, practically from the front row. Tel.: +385 (52) 830565
Tone
Located a little off the beaten track on a steeply rising road, Tone offers not only good pasta and drinkable beer, but above all burgers with homemade fries that are both impressive and tasty. Very nice service, many locals among the guests and the unorthodox slant of the guest garden remain in the memory. Conclusion: Absolutely recommendable for a cosy dinner at moderate prices. tone.rovinj
Agli Amici Rovinj
The great location just opposite the marina offers spectacular views of the historic old town. The culinary aspect of Agli Amici Rovinj is no less exciting, and it was not for nothing that it was awarded a Michelin star. Guests can choose from three different menus. Godia, Istria and Rovinj each combine the ingredients of the land and the Adriatic, plants and animals. An outline of all the delicacies that this region has so richly to offer. The artfully arranged dishes are skilfully complemented by an outstanding regional and international wine list and great service. maistra.com
Cap Aureo
Located on the fifth floor of the beautiful Grand Park Rovinj, chef Jeffrey Vella serves fresh, seasonal and largely vegetable-based dishes. And they are just as excellent as the idea of serving the small delicacies in a range of 5-20 (sic!) courses.
We also find the idea of reviving the guest book very original. Every visitor is encouraged to immortalise himself or herself, which gives you the opportunity to marvel at our entry on site or to read it in the form of a ticker. Beforehand, however, I can reveal that we were happy and satisfied all round on our very short journey home. maistra.com
