Outside, the landscape is impressive and rugged. Train steeped in history

On the one hand, there is the long history. You can feel and see it thanks to the many details. The carriages were originally built between 1920 and 1950, but were extensively renovated around 1980. Original features were restored, such as the brass luggage racks. Art deco elements were also added, such as table lamps and seats. A Dunn and Son was responsible for the renovation of the interior. The family had already designed some of the originals.

Today, The British Pullman, A Belmond Train consists of eleven carriages with names such as Audrey, Cygnus, Gwen and Vera. Each of them comes with its own story. Some of them were once even used to transport royals. Cygnus, on the other hand, was redesigned in 2021 by director Wes Anderson and equipped with new chairs, lamps and marquetry. When you board the train, you almost get a bit of a Murder on the Orient Express vibe. And it did indeed operate as part of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express between London and Venice until 2023.

Christmas train journey

In November and December, the luxurious train now embarks on its festive journey through the English countryside. The schedule includes various routes, for example from/to London Victoria Station, the historic cities of Bath and Canterbury and Blenheim Palace. Each trip has its own highlights. In Bath and Canterbury, for example, guests have the opportunity to visit the famous Canterbury Cathedral with a local Christmas choir.

During the trip to Blenheim Palace, there is the opportunity to discover the palace’s beautifully illuminated Light Trail and stroll through the festively decorated stately rooms. Of course, the journey itself is the real destination.

Festive magic on the train

For the holidays, the carriages are dressed up in their festive attire. Guests feel transported back to the glamorous 1920s when they take their seats. The wood-paneled car riages shine in festive splendor thanks to Christmas decorations. Adorned with wreaths, mistletoe and stylish decorative elements, the Christmas spirit is immediately apparent. Of course, the culinary delights are also sure to please.

The Christmas train journeys through England include a champagne reception at the start of the journey as well as a seasonal lunch menu consisting of five courses. It is accompanied by a selection of fine wines curated by the sommelier. The meal ends with coffee, tea and petit fours. There is another special feature in the evening on December 31. This is when live entertainment adds to the New Year atmosphere. Tickets cost from £ 535 per person.
