Heritage Le Telfair Experiences, Mauritius | Research Stay.
Location
The Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort is located on the south coast of Mauritius. Le Morne, the famous mountain on the island, is about half an hour’s walk along the coast. It is one hour to the airport. Depending on the traffic situation. The capital Port Louis is about 90 minutes away.
Le Telfair is part of the large Heritage estate. On its property, in addition to the pools, villas and restaurants of Le Telfair, there is also a golf club and Le Château de Bel Ombre. There is also a B&B on the property, about a 20-minute walk from the beach and the main buildings of Le Telfair. Right next door is the Heritage Awali. This is also part of the resort.
Style & Character
Our Heritage Le Telfair experience begins with a drive through the imposing gate. A palm-lined avenue leads to the hotel lobby. This alone sets the tone for the rest of the property. The style is reminiscent of a historic sugar plantation. And while the individual buildings stand out against the blue sky in brilliant white, dark woods dominate the interior. Natural colours and materials form the backdrop against which holiday dreams come true.
From the lobby, stairs lead down to a small bridge that spans a small river. On the other side, several buildings are spread over a lush and spacious area. They house different restaurants, the shop, a beautiful bar and the villas in which the rooms and suites are housed. The small paths leading under illuminated banyan trees are particularly beautiful.
Rooms & Suites
The colonial style continues in the rooms and suites of the Heritage Le Telfair. Six to eight of them are located in the individual villas. They are available as beachfront variants as well as with Garden View or Sea View. The ground floor suites have reserved beach loungers on their terrace. The suites on the first floor have balconies, also furnished with pretty furniture.
Of course, all rooms are tastefully furnished. Our suite, No. 107, had a beautiful marble bathroom complete with rain shower and bathtub. Moreover, the location was very chic. The balcony overlooked the Serenity Pool and the beach (with the sea, of course). Nespresso machine, lots of water and the fluffiest bathrobes ever await you. 24/7 room service, residence host and organic amenities as well.

Food & Drinks
At Annabella’s, the main restaurant, you can enjoy excellent buffet-style cuisine in the morning and evening. At all times, the buffet is beautifully presented, neatly kept and stocked with the freshest ingredients. Fruit, vegetables, the finest pastries, hot dishes from all over the world, dairy products, cereals in the morning and the freshest market cuisine in the evening make “Annabella’s” a varied address.
Right across the street is the Cavendish Bar & Lounge. It was our first port of call at almost any time of the day. It serves great coffee, wonderful snacks and, later in the evening, delicious margaritas. Bar Tenders Visham and Ruben are pure delights. You should definitely make the speciality restaurant “Gin’Ja” part of your Heritage Le Telfair experience. This is pan-Asian cuisine at its best. We can recommend the wonderful sushi as well as the Pad Thai.
Le Palmier right on the beach serves snacks, plus beach & pool service and a sweets kiosk. You can also enjoy a meal in the restaurants of the other houses. Depending on which package you have booked, either with a small surcharge (half board) or at no extra cost (Gourmet Bliss). An excursion to Kaz’alala, for example, is worth it just for the peacocks on site.
Amenities & Service
The sports enthusiasts among you can let off steam in the small, very fine gym. Or go to yoga, play golf, participate in the daily group activities (Breathwork, Tia-Chi, Pilates). There is also a wide range of water sports activities. At Heritage Le Telfair, you can rent kayaks, SUPs, go snorkelling, kite surfing or take a glass-bottom boat tour. On land, there is live entertainment, beach volleyball, speedminton, disc golf, cooking classes and much more.
Live bands play regularly in the Cavendish Bar, and there is also a wonderful spa. The latter pampers with rituals, facials, beauty treatments and mind-body sessions. Next to the sea, two pools invite you to swim. The main pool is equipped with cabanas. There’s a “first come, first served” principle here. In the “Serenity Pool” you can enjoy heated water. Actually, it should be the quieter one. But of course that depends on whether parents read the signs. Because it is always warm, families often find themselves here.
The service is impeccable. No matter who you deal with here: Everyone always knows about food intolerances. Nowhere does it take long for someone to assist you. Especially the men in the Cavendish Bar were hosts with passion. The luxury resort also meets the highest demands.
What we loved
Everything. The architecture and our suite were simply a dream. Because the resort asks that a smart casual dress code (i.e. long trousers for men, no flip-flops and no swimwear) be observed from 18:30, the Heritage Le Telfair experience is guaranteed to be stylish. The banyan trees and pretty pathways, the Cavendish Bar – we’d come back anytime. And recommend a visit to you too.
Good to Know
The resort is frequented by many families. As there is no separation between family and adults-only areas in the restaurants, you should simply point out in “Annabella’s” that you would like a quiet table away from the children’s buffet. Or just eat a little later. Unfortunately, it rained while we were there. This meant that the heated Serenity Pool directly below our balcony was very quickly anything but quiet. Still, we think Suite 107 is the best!
Top-Tips
Drink margaritas. Eating at Kaz’alala. Eating at the Gin’Ja. Walking around. Drive to Le Morne and climb it. Also, stop by the Beach Shack for a fresh coconut (with rum!).
