Just float weightlessly in the water. Think about nothing. Not being disturbed by anything. Absolute relaxation. Positive effects on the psyche, the nervous system and the entire body. This is what floating promises. But what does floating feel like? And what does it really bring?
What is Floating?
The principle is simple: you lie in a tub filled with salt water. This is well-tempered. And so concentrated that you float weightlessly in the water. All external stimuli are turned off around the tub. It is neither too cold nor too hot, mostly dark and silent. Some tubs are additionally equipped with light effects and some even with music.
What Floating does
Because the sensory organs and the muscles have nothing to do, a feeling of relaxation quickly sets in. The calm is so profound in some cases that blood pressure drops and the sensation of pain diminishes. Happy hormones flood the body, so floating can be mood-boosting. The immune system also experiences a boost. The muscles also have the opportunity to finally take a break. Oh, and the salt water also has a positive effect on the skin, of course.
Floating in Vienna – Experiences
For some time now, the company “schwerelos” has been offering floating at two locations in Vienna. We decided on the one in the eighth district. The booking is uncomplicated. When you confirm your booking, you receive precise information. For example, that you only need to bring a bath towel and slippers. Shower gel and earplugs are available on site. As well as hairdryers.
Once there, the reception was very nice. Since we had opted for couple floating, we were accompanied in pairs to a small, pleasantly tempered room. The staff explained the floating tub and what we had to do, then we were off. Undressing and getting into the tub. Then: the big wait for total relaxation.
Is it life changing?
In fact, it’s a pleasant feeling when you don’t feel anything on the outside. Nothing presses or pinches. You just lie there. And when you finally consciously allow yourself to relax your neck muscles as well, you actually become calm. And then it probably depends on what type of person you are. We found our hour very soothing.
The experience was not yet life-changing for us. The mind had its difficulties in finally resting. Because when it’s not busy processing external stimuli, lots of ideas come up. Floating definitely has a stimulating effect on creativity. In fact, we felt super relaxed afterwards and slept great. Especially our runner muscles thanked us for the hour of rest. And we will be back again!
