Hotel Review DAS.GOLDBERG in Gastein/Salzburg – Research Stay
Location
The design and wellness hotel DAS.GOLDBERG is located a little above Bad Hofgastein. The location is quiet, there are practically no neighbors. In winter, the ski slope runs directly past the house. That is already quite grandiose. The Skiwelt Ski Amadé with its endless slopes is thus within reach. In summer you can start from the front door into the hiking pleasure. The panoramic view falls on the village (down below) and the Hohe Tauern.
From Vienna you can reach DAS.GOLDBERG in about 4 hours, from Salzburg you need about 1 hour 20. The journey from Munich takes 2.5 hours. Faster – and of course much more environmentally friendly – is by train. The hotel shuttle picks you up from the Gastein Valley.
Style & Character
DAS.GOLDBERG is a family business with a long history. The building is documented to have been a farm with an attached inn as early as 1905. High above the Gastein Valley, spa guests particularly enjoyed relaxing in the summer. In 1981, the Seer family took over. And they are still at the helm today. In 2012, they tore down the old building and erected what opened in 2013 as today’s DAS.GOLDBERG.
And this is a house that knows how to convince with many small things as well as in the big. The interior is warm, you immediately feel welcome. Beautiful suites with freestanding bathtubs inside and outside on the balcony become cozy cuddle nests. You simply notice everywhere what an important role quality and design play. And the attention to detail is a stunner anyway. The tampons and pads in the ladies’ restroom are just one of the many examples.
Amenities & Service
The always friendly staff, who are also blessed with a good dose of humor, surprise. One hardly expects to find such pearls anymore. Particularly noteworthy in this regard are the staff at the reception and at dinner. Remarkably nimble and tidy are the people who are constantly busy cleaning up the rooms and making them look nice.
Rooms & Suites
What else is there to say? After all, we’ve already raved enough. These are furnished with dark wood, fine stone and beautiful fabrics. Ours had two bathtubs, a huge shower, an extra toilet, plenty of space to store our things and a spacious seating area.
It’s perfect when you have to work on the road. The internet is super fast. For in-room catering, there is a minibar and plenty of coffee and a nice tea selection.
Food & Beverages
As mentioned above, the service was a very positive surprise. The quality of the food is excellent. What we particularly liked was, for example, the fact that you can have the evening menu in “mix & match” style. This means that you don’t have to choose between vegetarian and meat, for example, but can have beef soup as a starter and a vegetable dish as a main course.
The breakfast buffet is a feast for the eyes. And the taste buds. We love the fact that vegetables (for example, the cucumbers) are available whole. You just cut off what you like. This results in much less food waste. Because what’s left over can go into the salad in the evening. You only have to dispose of the dried end, not a whole bowl of skinny vegetable sticks. Another point to rave about is the coffee. You roast it yourself in the house. Oh, and the bread is homemade too!
Gym & Wellness
The gym is open all day – thank god! With that amount of good food you just have to workout a bit. It’s not huge, but it’s almost certainly enough. Quite modern Technogym equipment (treadmill and cross trainer, for example) awaits the guests.
The wellness area has a pleasant size. The relaxation rooms are so spacious that everyone is guaranteed to find a place to relax. In the spa, the detour to the GOLD.STOLLEN, a tepidarium made of stone, is worthwhile. There is an infinity pool with a view of the Gastein Valley and the mountains. The entrance is inside. Outside, a natural bathing pond is also available in summer.
What we loved
We stayed in room 503 and it is just perfect. You have a free standing bathtub. Additionally, there is a year-round tub on the huge terrace. There are homemade bath products in the bathroom. Shampoo, shower gel and body lotion are in refillable containers. There are massive toilet doors.
And the small Valrhona chocolates, the tea and coffee bar delight additionally. Also very cool: Instead of Nespresso capsules, you get coffee powder with preparation instructions. It’s actually rare otherwise, but here the hotel shop is really worth a visit.
What we didn’t like that much
The only tiny drawback was that it was too warm in the gym. We noted this at the reception and were assured in a very friendly (and credible) manner that this would be taken care of. For us, the infinity pool was a bit too cool. The couple, who occupied the best spot in the pool for what felt like hours, didn’t mind much.
It’s perfect for
- babarrier free vacations
- vacations with your dog
- family vacations
- wellness trips
- skiing trips
- hikers
- couples
- active people
- girls trips
So from us there is a very, very, very clear recommendation for DAS.GOLDBERG. We advise you to book room 503. You will love it.
