Anyone who has ever looked for the perfect after-work bar in Salzburg to chill out and gossip about the job knows: it’s complicated. The pretty cafés in the Andräviertel, which has become a hip part of town, often close at 6 pm on weekdays. But that’s when we’re just getting into the drinking mood. Unfortunately, some pubs and bars only exude a certain charm when you’ve already had a drink or two elsewhere.
Look no further!
But in Schallmooser Hauptstraße there is an urban jungle with the “Burdock Punch & Cocktails“, where the man behind the bar fills the glasses with sounding names like “Silk Road”. And reinterprets classics like the good old Negroni. And with a blueberry twist and without too much alcohol. We ordered this from the menu in round one, plus a Silhouette with protein content and noticeably more oomph in terms of liquid percentages.
What goes into the glass is definitely super-creative and tastes really good. The cocktails are priced at around twelve euros, the Spritz at eight fifty euros. Nibbles are on top of the tray. We had a few pretzels. And because we got hungrier, the two of us ordered the dim sums from the menu. Vegetarian and with meat. We found it a shame that one piece costs 1.50 euros and that with ten pieces the purse is empty(er), but the stomachs are only marginally fuller. Accordingly: Drinks – yes please, for a filling meal it’s better to go a few corners further.
All in all, we enjoyed the early evening at the Burdock. And enjoyed four drinks in really nice surroundings. The atmosphere in the bar is relaxed and cosy, the style green and “jungle-like”, the crowd creative and quite mixed. Thumbs up also for the bartender, who is very well informed about what’s in his creations. Mission “Find an after-work bar in Salzburg”: accomplished!
