Anyone who thinks tea is a matter for winter should reconsider their opinion for a moment. Because Afternoon Teas in spring 2023 entice with colourful works of art made of chocolate, and with unusual ideas. And of course with bubbles here and there!
Special Afternoon Tea in London
Where better to drink tea than in London? In fact, every self-respecting hotel here offers high tea. In the Thames metropolis, a visit to The Langham Hotel is particularly worthwhile. This is where the meal between lunch and dinner is said to have been invented. Rosewood London, one of our favourite hotels in the city, currently serves Afternoon Tea with an artistic twist.
Inspired by the English painter David Hockney, Executive Chef Mark Perkins created sandwiches and desserts that are works of art in themselves. He pays his respects to the painter. And he does so in three courses. One of them is called “The Arrival of Spring”. Perkins is alluding to the Hockney artwork “The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate“. Like the painting, the dessert shows the change of season. And it wouldn’t be Rosewood if there were more. Because together with stylist and set designer Camille Wordie, they created an immersive experience that goes far beyond food. Price from € 100,− | rosewoodhotels.com

In Kildare, about half an hour’s drive from Dublin, is the beautiful Carton House. It is one of the newest additions to the Fairmont Hotels. As one of the most noteworthy Afternoon Teas in spring 2023, it scores with Jing Tea. This is a fine tea speciality from Asia. The ambience at the Carton House is also great. Afternoon Tea in Thailand
Far away from England, but close to tea: Thailand. Even in the Asian holiday paradise, people appreciate the small meal in the afternoon, which is supposed to get you through the time until dinner without going hungry. One of the hotels that celebrates this tradition particularly beautifully is the Anantara Chiang Mai in the heart of Lanna. The design for the experience comes from Chef David Eldridge. He leaves nothing to chance.
The porcelain for afternoon tea, for example, is from Wedgwood. And that, in turn, is the company that has been a purveyor to the court since the time of Queen Charlotte. Finger sandwiches, tartlets, scones and a tropical sorbet are just as much a part of it as a unique setting. This one of our selection of special afternoon teas is served on the veranda of Her Majesty’s former consulate. Fom € 22,− | anantara.com
