Legendary Venice stretches between Santa Monica in the north and Marina del Rey in the south. Lively, colourful and loud, it presents itself to its visitors. The hip district knows how to inspire with its Muscle Beach, the canals, the colourful facades and the magnificent sunsets. The gastronomic side is not bad either. Especially the area around Main Street served us well. We have compiled our top restaurants in Venice for you:
The Library Alehouse
Books in the name, on the wall and on the shelves of one of the first craft beer bars in Los Angeles. Since 1995, it has served a rich variety of beers and good classic American food. The beers available at The Library Alehouse are mostly from local breweries, but there are also selected imports. The friendly service staff even let us taste the beer beforehand. We can fully recommend the burgers. Even more so if you are lucky enough to be able to stop in on a Monday. On such a day, the delights of Burger Monday await you.
The Firehouse
This traditional family-run business is housed in the former fire station that bears its name and is regularly visited, especially by locals. It is a homely restaurant with a large bar, good food all day long and fabulous drinks. Tip: Warm Apple Cider. If you can get your hands on one, go for it. The apple cider is refined with Fireball and the result is a cosy autumnal drink. By the way, the film Speed made a small guest appearance in 1994.
Fiesta Brava
Simple Mexican restaurant in a family environment. Authentic dishes, unique tacos and very good fajitas characterise the restaurant, along with a great price-performance ratio. However, the hosts of Fiesta Brava do not have an alcohol licence, as this would be too expensive. Instead, they refer you to the nearest liquor store and explain how to get there by saying that you can consume what you buy there here. But it didn’t have to come to that, because the kitchen was faster, and that was a good thing.
The Jameson Pub
Sports, beer, ribs and socialising are the order of the day at the Jameson’s Pub, where there is always something going on. During the countless live broadcasts from the arenas of the major US leagues, the atmosphere is stadium-like. Treat yourself to two beers for the price of one during happy hours between 3 and 7 pm throughout the week and between 10.30 pm and 12.30 am on weekends. Tip: Try a Half & Half or one of the other original layered drafts. The excellent pub/bar food should provide the necessary base for this. We found the fact that those driving larger groups are allowed to take their non-alcoholic drinks on the house particularly charming.
Tsukiji Sushi Sen
Excellent sushi restaurant. The main focus is on fresh and sustainable produce. A fact that not only sounds good, but in this case also tastes good. Sapporo is a Japanese beer on tap, which is a rarity but a pleasant change. The fried gyoza for starters whetted the appetite for more. The salmon avocado rolls were really excellent, but especially the spicy tuna avocado rolls. They were so good that we immediately had to order a second round at Tsukiji Sushi Sen.
