Vienna loves its schnitzel. So much so that, according to estimates, the locals in the Austrian capital alone eat about 60 million schnitzels<\/strong> a year. They come in different varieties: the classic veal schnitzel\u2014the real Viennese schnitzel\u2014has just as many fans as those made from pork, chicken, or turkey. <\/p>\n\n

OXBO<\/em>, the restaurant at the Hilton Waterfront Vienna <\/strong><\/em>, has now been inspired to create something special: a brand-new, never-before-seen<\/strong> schnitzel creation. It\u2019s set to takeVienna<\/a> by storm as the \u201cDubai Schnitzel\u201d <\/strong><\/em>. Can this work out? <\/p>\n\n

Beautiful waterfront location<\/h2>\n\n

We\u2019ve had an incredibly hot day, and we arrive at the Hilton Vienna Waterfront<\/strong> in the early evening for a tasting dinner. The temperatures are just right\u2014the air is shimmering and feels like an Arabian desert. That\u2019s why a spot like the terrace at OXBO Vienna Waterfront<\/strong> is just what we need. Here, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Danube. The water flows lazily by, and every now and then a crazy person jogs along the promenade. <\/p>\n\n

In true style, we choose beer to go with our meal. It\u2019s served wonderfully cold and on tap\u2014to our delight, it\u2019s Ottakringer<\/strong>, from the city brewery. We pause only briefly to consider whether we really want the bread, butter, cress, and spread\u2014after all, we both have a bottomless appetite for schnitzel<\/strong>. In other words: After the first schnitzel, the inevitable question arises: \u201cWhat are we going to eat next?\u201d <\/p>\n\n

The Dubai Schnitzel Flavor<\/h2>\n\n

Unfortunately, they won\u2019t tell us what kind of spread we\u2019re putting on the small piece of bread. It\u2019s reddish and tasty\u2014that\u2019s already a good start. Then it arrives: the Dubai Schnitzel<\/strong>, the very reason we came here in the first place. It\u2019s a Viennese veal schnitzel<\/strong> in a crispy crust made of kataifi strands. We\u2019ve certainly gotten to know those well enough, ever since the much-hyped Dubai chocolate<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

They also make an excellent coating for schnitzel. We wouldn\u2019t have thought so. Topped with pistachio crumbs, they create an interesting flavor<\/strong> that\u2019s quite similar to traditional schnitzel, but the texture is much crispier. What surprised both of us: we got full incredibly fast<\/strong>. According to the menu, the side dish is truffle mille-feuille potatoes. We don\u2019t know if they were simply served as plain fries because we asked if we could possibly leave out the truffle. <\/p>\n\n

Should you try a Dubai schnitzel?<\/h2>\n\n

A semicircular chocolate praline, covered in kataifi and filled with pistachio cream, rounds out the meal. Even though we were certain just two minutes earlier<\/strong> that we were completely full, not a single crumb of the praline is left. It fills the last gaps in our stomachs and makes for a wonderful finale<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

OXBO<\/em> is already well-known in culinary circles for its cuisine, which is dedicated to high-quality ingredients and a <\/strong>modern farm-to-fork approach <\/strong>. The relaxed atmosphere by the water\u2014which also has a calming effect on the staff\u2014 adds<\/strong> an extra dimension to<\/strong> every meal. With \u201cDXBO at OXBO\u201d\u2014the name of the new Thursday special featuring the Dubai Schnitzel\u2014there\u2019s now one more must-try<\/strong> attraction you really shouldn\u2019t miss<\/strong>. You probably won\u2019t find a crispier schnitzel anywhere else\u2014or one that\u2019s more filling! <\/p>\n\n
