Probably a rather unusual career aspiration for a young boy. But one that did not come out of the blue. After all, year after year he spent a few carefree weeks with his parents in the Italian vacation resort of <strong>Chioggia Sottomarina<\/strong>. It was there, at the southern end of the Venice lagoon, that he first came into contact with the concept of the watermelon seller. Now, <strong>some 20 years later<\/strong>, Mitsch is fulfilling his dream. From <strong>July 23 to August 11<\/strong>, fresh melons and drinks will be available in his <em>\u201cMelonenhalle\u201d<\/em>, a pop-up in Vienna&#8217;s Museumsquartier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full cnvs-block-core-image-1716272117195\"><img data-dominant-color=\"cecdbb\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #cecdbb;\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/melonenhalle-wien-2.webp\" alt=\"Melonenhalle Wien\" class=\"wp-image-32589 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Melonenhalle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full cnvs-block-core-image-1716272187883\"><img data-dominant-color=\"cec8bc\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #cec8bc;\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/melonenhalle-wien-1-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32597 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Melonenhalle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"watermelon-with-protection-of-origin\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watermelon with protection of origin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The namesake ingredient of the <em>Melonenhalle<\/em> (melon hall) is the <em>Anguria Reggiana IGP<\/em> watermelon. The centuries-old secret of cultivating Europe&#8217;s only <strong>watermelon with protected origin<\/strong> lies in the ideal climatic conditions of Reggio Emilia. The result is a dark, sweet watermelon with that extra crunch. The unique taste is also achieved thanks to sustainable cultivation methods and <strong>strict quality control.<\/strong> The <em>Anguria Reggiana<strong>. <\/strong><\/em>can only be harvested from June to September. And part of this harvest now finds its way into the<em> Melonenhalle<\/em> in the MuseumsQuartier <a href=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/en\/?s=vienna\">Wien<\/a>.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full cnvs-block-core-image-1722180507619\"><img data-dominant-color=\"8b8274\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #8b8274;\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/melonenhalle-wien-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32593 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Paul Mitsch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full cnvs-block-core-image-1722180543901\"><img data-dominant-color=\"9e9488\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #9e9488;\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/melonenhalle-wien-2-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32599 not-transparent\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Paul Mitsch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., visitors have the opportunity to grab a slice of this summery delicacy. The <strong>Prosecco on tap<\/strong> goes perfectly with it. The Negroni Sbagliato brings an even more Italian feeling to the tables in front of the Museumsquartier. And it&#8217;s the summer drink of the year anyway. Incidentally, <strong>homemade vermouth<\/strong> from the G\u00f6bel organic winery in Vienna is used as the base for the glasses.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"relaxed-vibes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relaxed Vibes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Melons and drinks are available in room D. Finally, you can eat at Heurigen tables under illuminated chestnut trees in front of the <em>Melonenhalle<\/em>; not in the inner courtyard, but on the Ring side. Every <strong>Tuesday<\/strong> there is <strong>Italo Scheibn<\/strong> &#8211; the finest curated Italo disco from 6 pm. And on Thursdays you can also indulge in <strong>scopa<\/strong>. The Italian card game simply plays much better with watermelon and Negroni Spagliato. It also starts at 6 pm. The event ends at 10 pm and the melon hall is open daily from 3 pm for three weeks. The magic will be over again on <strong>August 11<\/strong>, <strong>2024<\/strong>. As Mitsch explains in the interview, <strong>a ton of watermelons<\/strong> were sold in the first three days. Supplies are constantly being replenished. Mitsch himself is behind the counter. He is no stranger to gastronomy. After all, he has already worked at <strong>Ren\u00e9 Redzepi&#8217;s<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/thechillreport.com\/2023\/01\/09\/das-noma-sperrt-zu\/\">legendary <em>Noma<\/em> in Copenhagen<\/a>. He has also studied sustainability. The <em>melon hall <\/em>should be nothing more than a kind of summer job.
